| In the upper right-hand corner of your child's computer screen is a menu bar that looks similar to the illustration on the right. There is a icon that looks like a black fan made up of 4 lines. The number of lines indicates the strength of the signal so you may see less than 4 lines. Black lines indicate that the laptop is picking up a signal from a wireless network. | |
| If there is no wireless network, you will not see any lines. You may also see this if your child has cut the Airport off. | |
| To identify networks in your neighborhood, click on the black fan. The network with the checkmark beside it is the selected network. | ![]() |
If the network is password protected, you will be asked to enter the WEP password as in the illustration to the right. If it is not password protected, your child will be able to connect automatically. You may be able to access different wireless networks from different rooms in your house. Accessing other people's wireless networks is illegal. HOW CAN I PASSWORD PROTECT MY WIRELESS NETWORK? Every wireless network is different. Everyone should password protect their wireless networks. Call your Internet Service Provider or contact the business from which you purchased your wireless router for help with password protecting your wireless network.
