1. Students should be taught specifically how to maximize the InternetŐs potential while protecting themselves from potential abuse.
  2. b. Students need to know what to do and who to ask for help when they encounter a person or site on the Internet that is offensive or threatening to them.

Students may come across inappropriate and potentially dangerous information while using the Internet and should know what course of action to take if they feel violated. Students should report inappropriate Internet activity (any information/interaction that makes you feel uncomfortable) to a trusted adult as soon as possible.

If students are at school and come across an inappropriate web site, they should immediately hit the back button and notify the teacher. Teachers should report the site to the appropriate school personnel. Students should not share it with classmates. If students are at home, they should hit the back button and tell their parent(s) or guardian(s). When students gets to school the next day, they should contact a trusted adult and let them know how they came across the inappropriate material so administrators will be aware of the incident in case the students' history is reviewed at a later date.
